If I have been thinking about it, visualising it and basically have reached a conclusion about what’s next step, then its imperative I write it down.. thats like a signature on a contract – it seals it!
who you are when nobody is looking..
is a generic rule for everything. I guess ‘be positive’ is ideal even..
The reference here is to feedback in particular. It is very easy to fall prey to laughing(mocking even..), pulling a leg(jokingly or even not so..) etc when hearing an idea, an initiative etc. Always good to start with ‘Good start!’ and then follow it with everything. Better still, follow up with a bunch of positives(5 being a good number..)
Easy to talk about, but extremely hard to do.. as am finding out!
Leave everything a little better than you found it..
my learning for the day..
about whether to do something? basically, to take some action..
Go back to the primary aim..
over communicate! Even if something is repeated a 100 times, there is seriously no danger. Moreover, you would only stand as a person who sticks by what you say. There have so many many times when relationships(all kinds..) break down thanks to arguments over phone. Its just like I observed today that a couple of sentences over chat sounded very very hard over chat but much better and more towards normal over phone.
MOS(moral of the story..) – if you have a fight to pick, always..always wait to see the person face to face.. for multiple reasons. :)
Another in the ‘when work is not getting done’ series(hehe), clean thy room! Well, I’m not sure what the correlation is. But, it is true that generally life is consistent in terms of performance i.e. when you do well at what matters most to you eg – work, studies, play – everything else falls into place(not always everything.. studies is an anomaly in my case!) and vice versa..
Anyway, coming back to the point. Where I’m concerned, my life is just as organized and ‘in control’ as much as I play soccer. If I am playing soccer 5 times a week, then things couldn’t get better! And somehow, it is related to the state of cleanliness of my room and workspace. I guess its just the fact that a muddled head results to a muddled surroundings but anyway, just something that boosted my work rate.. :)
After having adjusted the rules to Singapore time.. A little more about games and rules. It is indeed interesting how the best management practices are automatically practiced on the football field. For example, a big deal is made on the practice of differentiation, wherein, within a team, the members are paid according to the level of performance. When Jack Welch did it in GE, it caused global outrage- eventually, it was of course copied all over the world.
The intriguing thing is that it has always been the same on the football field. We have always heard of the best being paid a lot more, heard of club transfer fee records broken by the Zidane’s of the world… Its like I was told by someone wiser.. the rules are clear in football. You know when you score and when you don’t and there is a referee, who basically, makes sure the grey areas are sorted out(not always, but for all practical purposes!).
As I was made to realize once, the rules not all that clear at work and THAT makes all the difference in the world..
Big big learning (on a relatively lighter note.. :))- when trying to get sustainability right.. try and get the time zones right as well. Google works on US timezones and its always confusing as to whether I’ve posted a learning for the correct day.. maybe I can get to change it somewhere.. lets see! :)
The learning is to be very clear about the rules of the game! Seriously..
