is sloth.
Groups tend to gravitate towards the lowest common denominator in terms of energy and purpose. And, at any given time, there’s always one person in the group who’d rather not get anything done. Thus, the resistance takes over. The meeting becomes useless and worst of all, no decisions are taken.
A normal group gets nothing done.
A group that actually gets things done needs the driver of the meeting/group (and yes, there needs to be a driver) to drive it.
An outstanding group is full of “drivers” who’ve all walked in with agendas and aim to get things done.
So, if you’re group is getting nothing done, remember that that is just the natural state of a group. Fix it by appointing a driver. Make the experience amazing by asking the participants to do what their name suggests – participate.
We can’t do things alone. We need meetings and collaboration. Let’s learn to do them well.
